Double PPV Special! [20 Feb 2006|10:05am]
[ mood | tired ]

TNA Against All Odds
No spoiler warnings here as the only two people that read this have already seen or looked at results!

The Naturals vs. Austin Aries and Roderick Strong
Pretty good opener - strong is referred to as The Messiah of the Backbreaker, and knows dozens of variations. Are there really that many ways to apply a backbreaker? I know of maybe 6 tops? Naturals winning will maybe out them back on the title hunt.

Petey Williams vs. Alex Shelley vs. Matt Bently vs. Jay Lethal
I quite like Matt Bently, I know a lot of people hate the Bently Bounce but at least he interacts with the crowd which is something so many TNA wrestlers don't do, to their detriment. Lethal winning didn't say much for the others as he'd been murdered WITH a partner in a handicap match against Saamoa Joe on iMPACT!

The James Gang vs. The Latin American Exchange
How funny is Homicide? With a name like that I expect so much more but he's a midegt, especially in there against Kip James who I wish I'd gone to see on Saturday. No idea who Machete is but he didn't do a lot to impress. Bob Armstrong has me expecting a LAX v James Gang (inc. Bob) 6-man tag match at the next PPV. Easy win for James Gang with Homicide and Machete looking about as threatening as candy floss.

NWA World Tag Team Championship - AMW vs. Sabin/Dutt
Love how Sabin came in inured, becuase other wise they'd have legitimate challengers - yeah right! Actually a pretty good match, better than I expected from anything involving Dutt. Not sure where the post match save from the Truth fits in, but I'd have preferred him to let AMW beat on Dutt. AMW get the obvious win.

Falls Count Anywhere Match - Abyss vs. Rhino
For the 2nd PPV in a row I ended up doing something else during this match - caught the end though. Rhino on to a feud with, errr, someone?

X Division Title - Samoa Joe vs. A.J. Styles vs. Christopher Daniels
Great great match - all were on fire tonight. My favourite bit was when Daniels went to dive through the ropes but Samoa walloped him on the head as he was coming through and left him draped lifeless on the ropes. Not much left for Joe now in the X-Division after beating the two biggest stars in the division, again.

Fans Choice Grudge Match - Team 3D vs. Team Canada (Roode & Young)
I'm enjoying Team 3D more than I ever did in WWE - Brother D-Von bled like a stuck pig again but Dudleys got the win as expected.

NWA World Heavyweight Title - Jeff Jarrett vs. Christian Cage
This was a really good match - best thing either has done in months. Christian won - wow, never actually expected that! Edge was WWE Champ last month and Christian is NWA champ this month - bet they never expected that 6 months ago!

Really good PPV with nothing below good and going up to excellent for the X-Division match.

WWE No Way Out
I watched a bit in the middle last night and then the rest this morning - didn't watch it all though as will be explained.

spoilers for those who have yet to see it )

Overall this was a really good PPV and a million times beter than on paper which had it looking one of the worst ever.

5 hours of TNA and 3 hours of WWE in 24 hrs - that's a record for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it all.

no Billy Gunn [19 Feb 2006|10:07am]
I had an upset stomach last night so we never went to the wrestling - oh well, I've seen Billy Gunn live on a WWE tour - I'll survive!

TNA iMPACT! this morning confirmed that Dutt and Sabin would be the tag title challengers for AMW. I quite like some of their double team moves but I still really dislike Dutt - Sabin on the other hand is very good and I wish he had a better partner to make them more likable and to make the challenge seem more realistic.

The way Jackie was speaking I think [info]stewstyle was right with his theory - maybe he'll C&P it here for others to see - seems spot on in fact.

I'm Kip James Bitch! [18 Feb 2006|12:43pm]
I am going to try to get tickets for a Varsity Pro Wrestling show tonight here in Exeter! It's the first show in Exeter since the WAW show in Spring last year which drew 8 paying fans. Kip 'Billy Gunn' James is there which is the big attraction for me as I was always and still am a fan.

In other news - 2 more matches for No Way Out:

Cruiserweight Title Match
Seems like all 9 wrestlers in the ring at the same time though I prefer gaunlet style matches in these situations. No idea who will win and no idea who i want to win - why's Jamie Noble not in the match?

Tag Team Titles Match - MNM v Matt Hardy & ?
The current storylines don't suggest anyone as an obvious choice, maybe Jeff will come back to reform the Hardy Boyz? Just imagine if Jeter wasn't in The Spirit Squad and could tag with Matt.

PPV Preview [17 Feb 2006|10:05am]
[ mood | busy ]
[ music | THE GO! TEAM ]

Two PPVs this Sunday - WWE No Way Out live and TNA Against All Odds on one week delay.

Smackdown! presents WWE No Way Out 2006

World Heavyweight Championship - Kurt Angle vs. Undertaker
I thought Undertaker was going to be positioned as a heel as Kurt had just recently turned face but then Taker fought Mark Henry who is most definitely a heel. So this is a face v face match with all bets surely on Kurt Angle. It's be quite interesting to see Taker with the belt as he's probably the strongest portrayed wrestler in WWE - that said, he doesn't need a belt to be massively over and I can't see him going into Wrestlemania and defending the belt against mark Henry, as is the plan. I'll stop waffling, we all know the plan is for Angle to defend at Wrestlemania and Henry will probably interfere to cost Taker the match and fuel their feud for Wrestlemania.

Opportunity for a World Championship Match at WrestleMania 22 - Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton
Randy wins the match and the Wrestlemania slot - simple as! Be great if the match finished as some sort of no decision and we saw Kurt v Rey v Randy at Wrestlemania.

United States Championship - Chris Benoit vs. Booker T
In an ideal world Benoit wins the belt and goes on to feud with regal and Finlay. In the WWE world Booker will win and feud with Boogeyman in what will be a terrible feud. I wouldn't watch this match if you paid me - boring to the end.

JBL vs. Bobby Lashley
I'm imaging some skulduggery from JBL which get him the win but still keep Lashley looking string so they can go into Wrestlemania for a rematch. This match is the one match I will actually bother to watch the next morning.

There must be more matches, maybe a Tag Team match and a Cruiserweight match - all in all it's a PPV with little promise.

TNA Against All odds

NWA World Heavyweight Title - Christian Cage v Jeff Jarrett
I quite like Jarrett as a heel character but I'm not keen on his matches. I find Christian's character a much watered down version of what made him fun in WWE and his matches have been very average too. Challengers are few and far between for both men coming out of Against All Odds - apart from Monty Brown but he's hardly a wiz in the ring either. Jarrett wins to hold the belt when TNA changes to Thursdays and the World Title Scene looks even more inferior to the X-Division scene.

X-Division Title - AJ Styles v Samoa Joe v Christopher Daniels
I haven’t yet seen the first one of these matches that happened a few months ago but by all accounts it was awesome. I don’t see Joe losing his unbeaten streak to either man alone but maybe there will be a situation where they both pin him, this puts the X-Division title up in the air and means Joe has not been beaten by one man and allows Daniels and Styles to regain some momentum. Otherwise Joe can beat the shi*t out of them both and have nowhere to go in the X-Division, having conquered all!

Team Canada v Team 3D
Duds win this en route to another shot at AMW’s belts – end of story.

Tag Titles – AMW v Dutt/Sabin or Aries/Strong
Bound to be Dutt/Sabin to keep the heel v face dynamic – obvious win for AMW.

James Gang v LAX
The James Gang is such a silly name – sounds like it should be a show on CBBC! That aside, I do like NAO together again and their feud with Konnan and pals is working nicely thanks to Konnan’s intensity and effectiveness on promos. James Gang will win by DQ when another LAX member is introduced.

Falls Count Anywhere - Abyss v Rhino
I was playing on my PSP during their match at Final Resolution so this will be the first PPV match of theirs I have seen. Not really bothered who wins as neither does a lot for me.

There maybe more matches on either show but this is all I know right now. NOW looks poor, AAO looks great in places, but neither can hold a candle to what UFC has going on at the moment – roll on UFC 58 and Penn v St Pierre.

an update - at last [15 Feb 2006|11:06am]
As the one place I talk about wrestling has become a school playground I am resurrecting this LJ to talk about wrestling - what a fab idea!

WWE
Heading into No Way Out this Sunday and I don't think I'll bother staying up to watch it or even record it - not one match on the card interest me in the slightest and in the case of Benoit v Booker, I wouldn't watch if you paid me - boooring!

The Hulk Hogan DVD rumoured match listing has been posted on t'net, look here for the matches )

I have to say that I find that a bit disappointing - the first disc should be fun but after that it's a lod of matches that were on PPV. I'd much prefer TV tapings or house show matches especially as Hulk Still Rules already covers the PPV matches, though the addition of WCW matches is a bonus - pity there is no Bash at the Beach 1996 - maybe the post match promo will be one of the extras.

RAW was ok this week - the whole HBK v McMahon feud is quite fun, I liked seeing the old HBK segments on TV and McMahon shows once again that he's the best character the company has. Not sure how they are going to make this last another 6 weeks till Wrestlemania though. Bret Hart being announced for the Half of Fame was expected though the confirmation is nice - he deserves it. I wonder who will induct him? Maybe Steve Austin as the matches they had in 1996/1997 were fantastic.

TNA
iMPACT! was a bit poor this past week but it hasn't stopped me looking forward to the PPV - Samoa Joe v AJ Styles v Christopher Daniels should be superb - the heel/face dynamic is a hard one as Joe gets cheered, Daniels turned heel on AJ this week and I've noticed AJ getting some boos even against jobbers - strange! Will Christian get the title? Probably not, byt it'll be fun to see him try - be interesting to see if thgis PPV match is better than his last 2 which have been decidedly avergae. Sonjay Dutt and Chris Sabin as tag title challengers is just silly, Dutt should be used as a TV jobber and nothing else. I'm probably alone but I do like the James Gang together again, though the team name is very daft.

OVW
I'm about to start OVW TV - March 2005 - more Heartbreakers antics to come and their feud with MNM should get started properly too. Absolute travesty that Antonio and Romeo got released from WWE when the tag division on both rosters is so pants - a move to Smackdown and a resurrection of their feud with MNM would have been a massive boost.

Thoughts to Matt Capotelli - fingers crossed for a full recovery.

NJPW Triathlon Survivor Tour - 3rd December [03 Dec 2002|04:50pm]
[ mood | working ]
[ music | None - an eerie silence! ]

1. Hiro Saito beat GOKU-DO (7:41) with a diving senton.
2. Jushin Thunder Liger, Heat & Masahito Kakihara beat Koji Kanemoto, Stampede Kid & Super Crazy (14:30) when Heat used a wrist-clutch Fisherman's buster on Crazy.
3. Takashi Iizuka, Osamu Nishimura & El Samurai beat Shinya Makabe, TAKA Michinoku & Minoru Fujita (11:12) when Iizuka used a sleeper hold on Fujita.
4. Scott Norton & Rick Steiner beat Shiro Koshinaka & Yutaka Yoshie (10:22) when Steiner used a Death Valley bomb on Yoshie.
5. Manabu Nakanishi beat Makai Mask #2 (7:03) with an Argentine backbreaker.
6. Triathlon Survivor: Kenzo Suzuki, Blue Wolf & Toru Yano [1] beat Tadao Yasuda, Ryushi Yanagisawa & Makai Mask #1 [1] (9:38) by 2-1.
- Kenzo Suzuki, Blue Wolf & Toru Yano vs. Tadao Yasuda, Ryushi Yanagisawa & Makai Mask #1 went to a draw (6:33) when Yano & Yasuda were counted out.
- Kenzo Suzuki & Blue Wolf beat Ryushi Yanagisawa & Makai Mask #1 (9:38) when Suzuki used the Hagakure on Mask #1.
7. Yuji Nagata, Mike Barton & Jim Steele beat Masahiro Chono, Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Tatsutoshi Goto (16:14) when Nagata used a cross armbreaker on Goto.

Good to see the Kings of the Hill pick up their first win - must be nice for Tanahashi to see his team mates doing well for once on this tour. Team Nagata picking up a useful win going into tomorrow's final with Team Gotch-ism+1 who had 2 of their 3 members winning today - Nakanishi and Nishimura. Kanemoto was on the losing team and Kakihara on the winning side yet again, though neither were involved in the pin - the IWGP Jnr Match they have should be good. I expect a successful 4th defense for Kanemoto.

NJPW Triathlon Survivor - the final! [03 Dec 2002|09:28am]
[ mood | hopeful ]
[ music | House of Mouse theme tune! ]

The Triathlon Survivor final looks great and has the two teams in the final that I both want and predicted would be.

The final to be held tomorrow (4th December) will be:

Team Gotch-ism+1 vs. Team Nagata

Team Gotch-ism+1 is Osamu Nishimura, Manabu Nakanishi & Yutaka Yoshie.

Team Nagata is Yuji Nagata, Jim Steele & Mike Barton.

On a great note I have some great tapoes coming from the UK's best tape trader - Pick's Tapes including The Spiral, Cross Road and Muga in Tokyo - should make for some great viewing!
